What is Meriden Smartcosin 20%?

A fast-acting antibacterial premix containing 200g Tilmicosin that enables mass-medication for control of respiratory diseases associated with Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida and porcine polyserositis and arthritis associated with Haemophilus parasuis (Glasser’s Disease).

smartcosin

It has broad spectrum activities that are primarily bacteriostatic and its effect is on both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as mycoplasma.

How does Meriden Smartcosin 20% work?

Meriden Smartcosin 20% has the unique ability to concentrate and be retained within swine phagocytes. Given the ability of neutrophils and macrophages to migrate preferentially to sites of infection, this could provide a mechanism for achieving higher levels of antibiotics in the tissues for which it is required. The release of bioactive Smartcosin following migration by neutrophils has been demonstrated in vitro. Furthermore, Meriden Smartcosin has been shown to stimulate lysosomal enzyme production and inhibit bacterial growth at levels below the minimum inhibitory concentration.
