Timugain is for use in Swine and Poultry. It is a macrolide with bacteriostatic activity, but in very high concentrations can have bactericidal activity against susceptible oganism.  It acts by binding to the 50s ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis.

In Swine, it is used for the prevention and treatment of Swine Dysentry (SD) caused or complicated by Brachysprira hyodysentriae, Ileitis caused by Lawsonia intracellularis, Colitis (Porcine Colonic Spirochaetosis) caused by B. pilosicoli and Swine Enzootic Pneumonia (SEP) caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae complicated by M.hyorhinis, Pasturella spp., Haemophilus spp.

In Poultry, it is used for reduction of mortality on poultry units where Airsacculitis, Chronic Respiratory Disease, caused by M. gallisepticum and/or M. synoviae are known to exist.
